Class III
Class III items can be purchased by any U.S. citizen than can validly purchase a firearm. There are two basic routes to acquiring a class III item.
Individual purchases require a passport, $200.00 tax, photos, fingerprints, and signature of a chief law enforcement officer. The signature must come from the head of an agency of the county you reside in. Inside Bexar County there are no chief LEO that will sign off on class III paperwork.
Purchase by a trust or corporation follows the same process as an individual purchase without the photos, fingerprints, or signatures. In addition to not needing a signature, the trust and corporation can allow more than one person to have access to the class III item.
Currently class III transfer paperwork is taking approximately three months for dealer to dealer transactions, and six months on dealer to individual transfer.
